I am directly responsible for the land surveying aspect of our development projects including boundary and topographic surveys, construction layout, and physical improvement surveys for escrow closings. This position requires negotiating and preparing proposals, preparing a plan of action for performing our services, directly supervising the projects as they evolve, and monitoring timelines for deliverables. I am also responsible for the administrative details of the department such as billing, employee development and reviews, and allocation of resources.
I began my career with Balzer & Associates, Inc. in Chesterfield, VA as an Associate Engineer in subdivision design, preparing construction drawings for residential developments. After about six months, I transferred to our Roanoke, VA office preparing construction drawings for residential and commercial developments.
After two years, I was promoted to Project Manager, closely working with clients and review agents in surrounding localities. I also became the principal contact for the design and development of telecommunication facilities for multiple clients.
After three years, I began to manage the land surveying department under our Licensed Land Surveyor.
After 8 years, I was promoted to Vice President.

I have attended numerous seminars regarding environmental engineering, land development design and land surveying principles.
I am an active member of the Virginia Association of Surveyors.
Looking back to your college years, what type of internships or jobs did you have that have helped your career path?
During college, I interned with a Fortune 100 company in Environmental Engineering. This invaluable experience shaped skills such as communication, professionalism, and accountability.
Will you be sitting for your PE exam in the coming future?
I have been licensed as a Professional Engineer since 2000 and as a Land Surveyor since 2006.
