Describe your day-to-day responsibilities:
On any given day I work on three to five house grading plans and a commercial plan or subdivision construction plan. This combination of diverse projects creates an excellent variety of work for me. I enjoy managing multiple projects, and I rarely have to work on the same project all day.
How long have you worked with Paciulli Simmons & Associates and how have your responsibilities increased?
I have worked for Paciulli Simmons & Associates since August of 2003. At first I worked very closely with several Professional Engineers on individual elements of a construction plan (storm sewer design, sanitary design, erosion and sediment control, and grading). Since then, my skill set has dramatically increased, and I now manage all house grading plans in the Leesburg office. I keep track of the work that comes in, set deadlines for completion, and deal directly with clients to make sure their expectations are met.
What types of projects do you work on?
At Paciulli Simmons & Associates I have worked on a wide variety of projects including both small and large subdivisions, commercial sites, as well as hundreds of individual house grading plans in multiple subdivisions in Leesburg and Loudoun County.
What types of activities, associations or memberships have you had that contribute to your career?
During college I was an active member of the gymnastics club and held several leadership positions, including President. I learned how to manage people, set schedules, plan and execute out - of - state trips, and coordinate large events with other colleges and universities.
Since graduation I have kept active by taking an assortment of art, cooking and dance classes. I also enjoy attending many of the local community music and art festivals and events. These activities help keep me focused at work and provide a good balance to my work week.
Looking back to your college years, what types of internships or jobs did you have that have helped your career path?
My first internship experience was during my junior year over winter break. The internship was with a very small land development company where I mainly served as an AutoCAD drafter. The following summer I obtained an internship with a larger land development company where I worked more in-depth on a variety of projects. These internships were extremely important to my career path and caused me to be interested in land development engineering. I know that my internship experiences made me a much better candidate for employment after graduation.
Will you be sitting for your PE exam in the coming future?
I plan on taking the Professional Engineering exam in April of 2008.
